Questions From Our Community
Hey Vinny!
You’ve got questions, and Vinny is here to help.
Allow me to start with a facetious suggestion and then follow with a serious one, to get the importance of my question across: One of two things needs to be done, either raise the community speed limit to 15 or 20-25 mph so that the few people traveling at that speed won't be in trouble ... or else I'd suggest that VO management needs to get every resident, along with one or three of the maintenance workers here and any incoming guest drivers, to understand why it's set at 10 mph. All it will take is for one grievous injury or outright fatality to get one of these speeders to finally understand that they aren't entitled to disobey this rule that the rest of us follow. Since cars have speedometers, drivers have no excuse for going over 10mpg. Golf cart drivers can't plead ignorance from not having a speedometer - all they have to do one time is follow behind a friend's car who's doing 10mph and use that 'crawling along' sensation as a guide about what it feels like to go too fast.

Answer:
Thanks for askin’, neighbor. Speeding’s a mighty big problem here at VO, and we’re not the only community with private streets wrestlin’ with it. It’s gotten to the point where the Board may need to consider havin’ the GM install some speed humps. I mean, what’s a desert without a couple of asphalt camels?
Question:
Please consider sending out a plea for residents and their guests to try to limit their hot water shower times to maybe a 3-6 minute shower(3-6 gallons ?).
We live in a desert area, where water usage should be limited where ever possible.
I regularly witness extended shower times, at the men’s east pool locker room, and in our nearby bath house. Why, because it’s FREE, and much cheaper (electricity to heat the water) than showering at their home.
People need reminders about being reasonable and about their wasteful habits.
V
Answer:
Well now, that’s a mighty fine question, partner! Water’s no small concern out here in the Arizona desert, and our GM, Steve, ain’t lettin’ the subject dry up.
At the last HOA Board meeting, Steve gave everyone a presentation about his water concerns and offered some ideas to help reduce demand in the future. If you mosey on over and watch that meeting, you can hear what he had to say.
His suggestion to the Board was to round up an ad hoc committee to gather information on ways to reduce water use in the park. Keep your ears perked, neighbor. Stay tuned for more news as it comes down the trail!
Question:
Is it possible to publish the final cost of the west pool reconstruction? We all paid an assessment, and a lot of people in the community are very curious about the total cost.
V
Answer:
Mighty fine question, partner! Let ol’ Vinny do a little trail work and rustle up an answer. I’ll get back to ya once I’ve tracked it down.
Question:
Hey Vinny, now that we have new street lights on the corners, how about putting the street signs under the lights so they can be seen at night. May be a bright idea.
V
Answer:
Well now, partner, your timing’s sharper than a brand new spur! We’ve started installin’ the new, larger street signs, and they’ve got reflective material to help ’em show up better at night.

Here’s one for the ages, neighbors! Let’s mosey down memory lane to August 1970, when the Rec Center was under construction. This ol’ photo gives us a peek at those early days.
