Sewing Club

Sew Much Fun!

CLUB INFORMATION

Welcome to the VO Sewing Club’s information page! We look forward to meeting you in person so we can show you our incredible facilities and the wonderful projects our club members have created! Our sewing room is located in the same building as Venture In Realty, the Fired Clay Arts Studio and the laundromat – across from “Happy Landings” RV pull-through sites. We are fortunate to be extremely well equipped – with a large number of top-of-the-line sewing machines, sergers, a long-arm quilting machine (designed to quilt up to a king-sized project), and many other amazing machines! From those who have never sewed a stitch in their lives, to Master quilters, we welcome all (and not just the ladies – our membership includes several men who are creating some amazing projects as well); our club is geared to those who just enjoy working with fabrics! Many classes showcasing a wide range of projects are taught by club members throughout each season – we can help you learn the basics to create something wonderful to show off, or just let you experiment and finish your own magnificent creation. Upcoming classes are posted on a special bulletin aboard in our room, are rated according to skill-level, and are displayed with a finished project in order to peak your interest. As well as creating personal projects, our club members work hard to create much-needed items for various charities, and always welcome sewers of every skill level to help create these. Please drop by for a visit – we’d love to show you around! We’d also welcome you at our upcoming “Sewcials” – where our members gather to have coffee and treats, and share projects they have completed or are currently working on. Hope to see you soon!

Club FAQs

Can anyone join?

Answer: Yes, we welcome everyone – from “Never touched a sewing machine before” to “I’ve been sewing since I was a baby”! We ask that both non-sewers and new members take part in a New Member Orientation, which happens every Thursday at 4:00 pm. This orientation will familiarize you with the layout of the sewing room, the equipment, and also provide a basic sewing lesson on our Janome sewing machines.

Answer: We ask our members to provide their own basic sewing kit, which would include pins, thread, and a few other basic items. If you wish to sign up for a course, you will be provided with a “materials” list, which generally outlines what amount and type of fabric which is required for that particular project that you will be creating. Some instructors will provide all or partial supplies for their course for an additional minimum fee. All materials for charity projects are provided by the sewing club.

Answer: Yes – we have a special bulletin board in the room which has a sample of the completed project, information about the skill level required, when the course will be offered, and how many people can be taught for the project. Interested members will need to sign up and pay their $5.00 fee in order to be registered. Registrations fill up very quickly for each course, so never delay if you see something you’d like to make. New courses are added continually, so be sure to check out the bulletin board every time you come to the sewing room! Is there a cost involved to allow me to take a course? Once you are a member, courses are offered for a fee of $5.00/course. A small additional fee may be required if the instructor is providing all or some of the materials needed for the project. If I have a project that I have created and am excited about, can I share it with other members? Yes – we LOVE to have our members share with us. Each month, we have a “Sewcial”, where we get together to show off what we’ve done (see dates in the Upcoming Events section). The Sewcials are a lot of fun, allowing us to share new ideas, visit with other “sewing fanatics” – all while enjoying coffee and treats. In addition, we’d love for you to offer to teach a course on how to make your project! If I want to try out some of the incredible machines in the sewing room, can I do so? Most definitely! Our machines (which include the Long-Arm quilting machine, a Mid-Arm Quilting machine, Sergers, a Go-Cutter and a Cover-Stitch machine) are available for use by all members. However, all these machines require instruction before use! Speak to the on-duty monitor for details about instruction.
