Library Service Club

CLUB INFORMATION

Venture Out has the best, biggest, and most unique library in the valley. It is this way because of the many hours put in by our volunteer librarians. Processing and buying books, scheduling shifts and training new librarians, organizing book sales, shelving books, and accomplishing all the many details that keep the library running smoothly keep the 25+ volunteers busy.

The goal of our Library Service Club is to have a well-staffed, appealing facility , with knowledgable, well-trained volunteers available to help residents find suitable reading materials.

Announcements and News

Our February book sale will include many audio books on CD’s. They haven’t been getting any use, so we will make room for more books. Did you know we have a biography section? Biographies are shelved by the subject’s last name.

Events & Fundraisers

Our next book sale will be Saturday, February 7 from 9 AM until 1:00 PM in the Community Center lobby. Our last two book sales have netted $624.00. This money goes to the Social Board who appropriate money as it is needed to various clubs and groups.

Meetings

  • Wednesday, February 18 at 10:30 in the Mojave Room – General Librarian Meeting

  • Wednesday, March 4 at noon in the Oasis – Appreciation Luncheon and Annual Meeting

Club FAQs

What are the Library hours?
The Library is open when the Community Center is open, which is 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Daily.  Ideally the library is staffed from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. We are currently working on staffing the Library during the weekends.
There is a sign out binder in front of the Librarian’s desk where people are asked to sign out books by writing the book title, their name, and address in the park.

All books taken from the Library are not limited to a specific amount of time.  We prefer the books to be returned in a reasonable amount of time within the season.  When books are returned, people should cross off their name on the sign-in sheet.

Most of our books are donated by residents.  We accept most gently-used, clean books.  At this time, we are not accepting cook books, Bibles, and reference books, as they are rarely checked out.  The VO Social Board also  gives us a small budget each year to purchase new books.
We have books in sections based on the following book genres:  novels, mysteries, religious fiction and non fiction, westerns, biographies, non fiction, science fiction, romance, southwest, and children’s books.  We also have a huge selection of large-print books.
